Upload an image to the Media library

  1. Log into your website's Kentico Admin Dashboard.
(Use <sitename>.tamu.edu/admin or <sitename>.tamu.edu/cmsdesk to go to the dashboard page on Kentico v8.)

  2. Follow the steps shown in the figure below to access the media libraries from the 'Dashboard' page.

Existing media libraries (if any) will be listed & 'New media library' button to create a new one is shown on Media libraries page.

  3. In this example, we will create a new media library.

Click on the 'New media library' button. Enter display name and other library identifying attributes into the new media library form as shown in the below figure.

It is recommended to use the convention - '<sitename> Media library' for Display name and Folder name attributes while creating a media library.

    • Display name: <sitename> Media library
    • Description: <suitable text>
    • Folder name: <sitename> Media library

After entering these values, click on the 'Save' button.

  4. Create sub-folders/directories to better classify the media files under media library folder.
It's highly important to have all media files properly organized not only for ease of access but it helps in quickly finding out and resolving any issues related to missing media files.

Create a folder structure under media library folder as shown below.

    • <sitename> Media library
      • Images
        • Icons
        • Banners
        • Pictures
      • Documents
        • Forms
        • Minutes
        • Flyers

For example, we will create a new folder called ‘Images’ under PITO Media library.
Follow the instructions as shown in the below figures.

  5. In our example, we will just create 'Pictures' folder under 'Images' following the same step as above. This new folder (Pictures) under Images will hold all the pictures which the site uses on its webpages.

  6. Click on the folder location in the tree/hierarchy where a new media file needs to uploaded, then click on 'Upload' button and select the file from the local computer.

In our example, we will click on 'Pictures' folder and then click on 'Upload' button to upload an image file into it.

Select the media file(s) to be uploaded from the local computer and click 'Open'.
Note: Multiple media files can be selected and uploaded at once.

Insert an image from the media library

  1. Navigate to the page where the image has to be inserted and then click on the 'Check Out' button. In our example, we will navigate to 'IT Consulting' page under 'Services' tab and check out that page.

  2. Place the cursor on the page at the position where the media file needs to be inserted, and then from the WYSIWYG editor, select the 'Insert/Edit image or media' button.

In our example we will insert an image after the content text by placing the cursor appropriately and then clicking on the ‘Insert/Edit image or media’ button.

  3. Follow the instructions shown in the figure below to insert an image into the webpage.

  4. Click on the 'Check in' button and then on the 'Publish' button to publish the page.
