Check your Test Site for Accessibility Compliance with the Chrome Extension

Overview

This article shows how to install and use the "Siteimprove Accessibility Checker” Chrome browser extension.  It allows users to check and fix the accessibility compliance on their development and QA/test instances of their websites.  The online Siteimprove tool can only check live/production websites at this time.

 

Installation

  1. In Chrome, browse to chrome://extensions/  (or click on the three vertical dots settings button in the upper right of the Chrome toolbar, and select More Tools=>Extensions).
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on Get more extensions.
  3. Search the Chrome web store for “Siteimprove”.
  4. Click on the ADD TO CHROME button for the  “Siteimprove Accessibility Checker” extension to install.

How to Use

  1. Browse to the page on your site that you want to run an accessibility check on.
  2. Click on the Siteimprove logo button in the Chrome toolbar in the upper right of your browser.

  3. Continue testing major landing pages one by one to identify compliance violations.
  4. Work through Level A violations first, then address Level AA violations.

  5. This browser Extension works similarly to the online service we offer - "Siteimprove Web Accessibility Tool Online Service(website)).  Feel free to refer to the Siteimprove Web Accessibility Tool article for more instructions on how to troubleshoot accessibility issues
